Half day Shared Decision Making (SDM) and consent in surgical care pathways

Our half day Shared Decision Making (SDM) and consent in surgical care pathways programme – will run on Wednesday, 16th October; timings will be 09:15 meet/welcome for a 9:30 start, with a 13:00 finish.

This programme is for Clinicians from surgical and peri-operative teams and Operational Managers in surgical and peri-operative pathways, and will look at:

  • The relationship between SDM and consent
  • Implementing SDM and consent – preparing patients, ensuring your local system is oriented to support SDM and consent, practicing skills using the ‘3 talk model’
  • Recording SDM and consent discussions

The programme will help to:

  • Improve patient satisfaction and reduce post-surgery regret
  • Ensure all patients are fully informed of the benefits and harms of the procedure they have chosen to undertake
  • Improve patient outcomes
  • Decrease complaints and litigation

This is a highly interactive programme with an emphasis on skills practice and development and will be delivered using a participative and experiential learning process supported by expert input. We will create many opportunities to practice skills and challenge you to identify how you can apply your learning to your own work place settings.
