Train the Trainer Programmes for Health Coaching

On-site programmes to help organisations harness the transformative power of health coaching

Our Health Coaching Train the Trainer programme

We've pioneered the development of Train the Trainer approaches for Health Coaching, having undertaken the largest and most diverse interventions across the country.

Most Train the Trainer programmes do not work or are ineffective in delivering lasting change as they focus on knowledge alone or try to take short cuts.

In contrast, our processes have been tried and tested and independently evaluated. An integral part of this is supporting new trainers in live training situations to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to actively disseminate the new approach.

We have a track record of developing internal trainers who are both motivated and confident to spread Health Coaching while innovating new approaches for system needs.

Who is this programme for?

Our Health Coaching Train the Trainer programmes are designed for organisations that want to develop an internal training resource for a cost effective roll-out of health coaching training and become independent in educating their workforce.

Train the Trainer programmes are recommended where there's a large number of staff to be trained, e.g. 150+. It's suitable for developing health coaching trainers from all health, care, community and voluntary sectors.

What do participants learn?

The focus of our Train the Trainer programme is supporting new trainers to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence to competently provide effective health coaching training that can support a mindset shift for personalised care.

We design the programme in such a way that internal trainers will become competent to deliver training to staff in single or multi professional groups. They'll understand how to develop programme content and how to approach health coaching so that it's relevant to the clinical and professional realities of the people they are training.

In order to develop the skills to deliver a high-quality programme independently to their peers, participants undertake a series of training workshops and a train the trainer programme before co-delivering their own health coaching training alongside an experienced TPC Health faculty member.

The development of internal trainers requires a complex learning and development journey. We've developed a range of support processes to ensure participants can both practice Health Coaching as practitioners and deliver Health Coaching Skills Programmes as trainers effectively.

How is the Train the Trainer programme structured?

The programme will be structured around a series of skills development workshops including: skills practice sessions, how to deliver sessions, co-delivery experiences, supervision and CPD before leading to independent delivery.

The process of development generally takes 6-9 months. Prior to the workshop participants are onboarded through an application process including online session and reflective briefing pack.

Our Train the Trainer programmes are structured across a number of phases:

  • Phase One – Design and Co-Production; during which we will partner with you to co-produce a programme bespoke for your system
  • Phase Two – Health Coaching Skills Development; during which we will support the development of the local trainers
  • Phase Three – Codelivery & Supervision; during which we will co-deliver the two day Core Skills programme with local trainers to your local workforce.
  • Phase Four – Independent Delivery and CPD/Supervision; under licence from TPC Health, local trainers will roll out the approach with our support via ongoing supervision and CPD.

Content will be discussed with commissioners in advance and will be tailored to meet the needs of your specific service, organisation or system.

What does the programme experience include?

This is a highly interactive programme with an emphasis on skill practice and development. The programme will be delivered using a highly participative and experiential learning process supported by expert input. We will create many opportunities to practice skills and challenge participants to identify how they can apply their learning to their own work place settings. Further, the programme will provide an opportunity for participants to discuss applications of health coaching in your system, develop relationships and network together with the intention of creating a community of practice.

We emphasise skills for embedding health coaching through on-going practice, reflection and planning as reflexive practitioners. We follow-up these programmes with webinars and online learning sessions or a series of e-learning based health coaching shots that comprise brief inputs and memory aids to support participants in the application of their learning after the workshop.
