Our core skills supervision programme ensures you will have ability to provide the highest standard of support to other coaches.
TPC Health has led the development of health coaching in the NHS since 2008 and continues to support the development of health coaches, link workers and other professionals using a health coaching approach; and as a provider of coach training for over 20 years, we also have a long history of training health coaching supervisors.
In the growing field of health coaching, providing quality supervision is essential for maintaining high standards, ethical practice, and consistent patient outcomes. Completing supervision training with us will mean you can:
- Ensure Quality and Consistency: Internal supervisors maintain a deep understanding of culture and goals, ensuring consistent quality across all health coaching applications.
- Encourage Continuous Growth: Develop a sustainable model for coaching excellence where health coaches receive regular, high-impact support and regular supervision.
- Enhance Coaching Effectiveness: Support other coaches to develop knowledge, skills and mindsets to address complex challenges, enabling them to improve patient outcomes and support long-term behaviour change.
- Strengthen Organisational Resilience: Build internal capacity and reduce reliance on external supervision services.
The Programme Experience
Give your practitioners the necessary skills and tools to become communication experts
This programme is aimed at experienced practitioners who are ready to begin developing skills and confidence to supervise other practitioners in their field.
Participants should be able to provide evidence of their own supervision – we can provide this if required, please contact us for details.
For NHS Health and Wellbeing Coaches this programme is appropriate for those who are already at or heading towards Tier 3 (e.g. can evidence 500 coaching hours) and have completed a four day PCI accredited health coaching programme. If you are not a HWBC, you will be required to have some form of coaching accreditation.
Participants completing this Core Skills programme will be able to access our EMCC ESQA Accredited Supervision Skills Development Programme (that is an accredited EMCC ESQA Award) and have been assessed at the end of this programme as ready. For NHS HWBCs, to advance to this programme, they need to have reached Tier 3 of the HWBC Framework.
The focus of the programme is on supporting practitioners to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to become supervisors of other practitioners using coaching.
The programme covers:
- The psychological basis and effective use of coaching supervision
- Understanding how to achieve the formative, normative and restorative elements of coaching supervision
- A variety of coaching supervision models and frameworks
- Skills to support supervisees to step fully into their practitioner roles, to create more insight, and to utilise challenge effectively
- Skills development and practice to deliver coaching supervision competently and confidently
- Skills and processes to deliver coaching supervision in a variety of formats: 1:1, group, telephone, online
- Knowledge and skills to use a variety of coaching supervision styles: directive, non-directive, creative techniques
- Contracting and boundaries
- Knowledge and skills to support action plan and accountability for translating insights into action
- Development of “supervisor identity” through ongoing reflective practice and the development of authority, presence and impact in the delivery of coaching supervision
The programme comprises four 1 day workshops and four half day skills development sessions, delivered over a period of approximately four months, to allow participants to practice their developing skills. Prior to the workshops, participants are onboarded through a reflective process, onboarding webinar and briefing pack that supports them to prepare appropriately and gain maximum value from the sessions.
This is an interactive programme with an emphasis on skill practice and development. The programme will be delivered using a highly participative and experiential learning process supported by expert input by accredited coaching supervisors. We will create many opportunities to practice individual and group supervision skills throughout the programme, and skills development sessions will be structured specifically to practice, deepen and mature participant’s skills in the delivery of individual and group supervision. During and between workshops we will emphasise on-going practice, reflection and planning as reflexive practitioners.
We follow-up the programme with a series of e-learning provocations that comprise brief inputs and memory aids to support participants in the application of learning. There will also be opportunities to join action learning sets and webinars. Participants will be encouraged to join one of our Post-programme Action Learning Supervision Sets to support the further maturation of their supervision skills.
Our Core Supervision Skills programme has been accredited by the PCI. In order to qualify for accreditation, participants will need to complete a Portfolio of Learning evidencing 10 hours of 1:1 supervision practice and 10 hours of group supervision practice (20 hours in total). This will support participants to reflect on their learning and understand their strengths and areas for development, and ensure they have a record of their training, practice and development.
Participants will also need to achieve a required level of skill as assessed by an accredited coaching supervisor. While this will be informed by practice observations during the programme, each participant will also receive a portfolio review and supervision skills assessment session when they feel they are ready to be certified. Note this assessment is also a requirement for progression to our Senior Supervisor Programme, and qualify for the EMCC Accredited ESQA Supervision Skills Development Programme.
All participants in this programme should be accessing regular supervision themselves. If this is not available to them in their region, TPC Health can provide individual or group supervision delivered by one of our accredited coaching supervisors. Please contact us for details.
We follow-up these programmes with webinars and online learning sessions or a series of e-learning based supervision and health coaching shots that comprise brief inputs and memory aids to support participants in the application of their learning after the workshop.
